Why Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Withdrew from the U.S. Presidential Race

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has withdrawn as an independent candidate in the U.S. presidential election and has announced his support for Republican candidate Donald Trump. He made the announcement on Friday.

According to the BBC, the 70-year-old Kennedy Jr. is a member of the politically influential Kennedy family in the U.S. He has been actively involved in Democratic Party politics for many years. His father was U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and his uncle was former President John F. Kennedy.

On Friday, Kennedy Jr. declared his support for Trump at a press conference in Phoenix, Arizona, stating, “Party policy has forced me to leave the party and support Trump.” Just a few hours later, he attended a Trump campaign rally in Arizona.

Trump welcomed Kennedy Jr. to the Glendale rally stage, calling his support “unprecedented” and a sign of “intelligence.” Trump stated, “His support will inspire millions of Americans and bring to light issues that have long been ignored in this country.” Before welcoming Kennedy Jr., Trump had promised to release all documents related to the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963.

However, Kennedy Jr.’s decision to support Trump has deeply upset his sister, Kerry Kennedy. She posted on social media platform X, saying, “His (Kennedy Jr.'s) support for Trump is a betrayal of our father and family values. It is a tragic end to a sad story.”

Kennedy Jr.’s wife, former HBO star Cheryl Hines, has supported her husband's decision to withdraw from the race but has not commented on his support for Trump.
