Police have arrested former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's former advisor on private industry and investment, Salman F. Rahman, and former Law Minister Anisul Huq. They were arrested yesterday, Tuesday, from the Sadarghat area of the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan confirmed this information. He said, "Based on the message we sent to various police stations and ports, they were arrested." He mentioned that the two were arrested in connection with a case filed at the New Market police station in the capital.
According to a notice sent by the DMP's Public Relations (Media) department, Salman F. Rahman and former Law Minister Anisul Huq were arrested by the police while attempting to flee via waterways from the Sadarghat area of Dhaka.
It is known that Salman F. Rahman was elected as a member of parliament from Dhaka-1 constituency in the 2018 elections from the Awami League. Later, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him as her advisor on private industry and investment. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Beximco Group and a former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
Former Law Minister Anisul Huq was a Member of Parliament from Brahmanbaria-4 constituency. He was elected as an Awami League MP from Brahmanbaria-4 (Akhaura and Kasba) in 2014 and was appointed as Law Minister at that time, holding the position since then.
According to police sources, during the student protests demanding quota reform, clashes occurred on July 16 in front of Dhaka College, resulting in the deaths of two individuals: a student and a street vendor. Two murder cases have been filed at the New Market police station in connection with these deaths, with the two arrested individuals being named as instigators in the cases.
