On October 7, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched a sudden attack, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking around 250 Israeli and foreign citizens captive in Gaza. Among those held captive by Hamas was Israeli woman Noa Argamani.
After her release from captivity, it was reported in the Israeli media that Hamas fighters had beaten Argamani and cut her hair. However, Argamani has rejected these claims, stating that her statements were misrepresented in the Israeli media. She asserts that she was injured during an Israeli military operation to rescue her.
In Tokyo on Friday, Argamani said, “My words have been taken out of context or misrepresented. During my captivity, Hamas members did not harm me or cut my hair. I was injured when an Israeli Air Force pilot demolished a wall. I was a victim on October 7. I do not want to be victimized by the media again.”
In June, based on intelligence information, the Israeli military rescued 26-year-old Argamani from the Nusirat and Dir al-Balah refugee camps in Gaza. The operation resulted in at least 236 Palestinians being killed, most of whom were women and children.
Argamani’s boyfriend remains in Hamas custody. She has called for urgent action to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
Argamani added, “My boyfriend Avinatan is still there. They need to be brought back before it’s too late. We have already lost too many people. I don’t want to lose anyone else.”
Argamani’s father has also called for the release of hostages in Gaza and an end to the suffering of Palestinians.
“We must stop these killings between us and them so that genuine peace can be ensured between the two countries.”
