Yesterday, the Chief Advisor met with 28 secretaries working in 25 ministries and divisions at the State Guest House Jamuna. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, instructed the secretaries to expedite the functioning and efficiency of the ministries and departments. He also provided directives to ensure that the supply chain remains unaffected and to take necessary measures in this regard.
The meeting took place at the State Guest House Jamuna, where Dr. Yunus gave these instructions, according to sources from the meeting.
Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government amid student and public protests, the interim government was formed last Thursday. However, various incidents rendered the ministries and departments effectively inactive. Over the past few days, the administration has been lacking direction, resulting in minimal progress. In this context, the Chief Advisor emphasized the urgent need to activate the ministries and departments. One secretary present at the meeting, who spoke to the daily *Prothom Alo* on condition of anonymity, said that in addition to the directive to make ministries and departments operational, the Chief Advisor issued several other instructions. These include prioritizing and implementing necessary actions immediately, maintaining transparency and sensitivity while working, and ensuring that there are no adverse impacts on the supply of essential goods like food, fuel, and fertilizer. The Chief Advisor also instructed to quickly resume train services.
The 25 ministries and divisions under the Chief Advisor’s purview include the Cabinet Division, Defense, Education, Road Transport and Bridges, Public Administration, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Food, and Agriculture.
A secretary present at the meeting told *Prothom Alo* that, given the Chief Advisor’s control over many ministries and departments, he has only instructed that urgent documents be presented to him. There is a need to prevent waste and practice austerity.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus has emphasized leveraging the energy of youth to advance the country. He stated the importance of utilizing the thoughts and ideas of young people.
The Chief Advisor also reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects in the ministries during the meeting. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain was present at this meeting.
Meeting Between Chief Advisor and Army Chief
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman yesterday at Jamuna. The meeting, which included senior military officials, saw Dr. Yunus express satisfaction with significant improvements in the country's law and order situation. He also praised the army’s role in contributing to the situation’s improvement.
“Initiative for Promoting the Underprivileged”
In the afternoon, the Chief Advisor met with civil society leaders, including former Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, and CPD Senior Fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya, at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Sources indicate that Dr. Yunus sought information from Wahiduddin Mahmud and Debapriya Bhattacharya regarding the economic situation of the country.
Meanwhile, since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, there has been increased activity among officials who feel ‘deprived’ of promotions at the Secretariat. They have been gathering almost daily at the Public Administration Ministry and the Secretariat.
According to sources from the Public Administration Ministry, steps are being taken to address the promotions of these ‘deprived’ officials. Former Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder has been assigned special responsibility in this regard. A meeting on promotions is expected soon, and Ali Imam Majumder has been appointed as the Chief Advisor’s Special Assistant by a subsequent notification.
