Dr. Yunus has met with the President Md. Shahabuddin to discuss the framework for an interim government



The meeting included the chiefs of the three armed forces, two professors from Dhaka University, and 13 coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement. During the meeting at Bangabhaban, a proposal was made to form an interim government with Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as its head, representing the anti-discrimination student movement. President Md. Shahabuddin agreed with their proposal.

The President mentioned that the country is currently going through a critical period. He emphasized the urgent need to form an interim government as quickly as possible to overcome this crisis. He suggested discussing and finalizing the nominations for the advisory council with political parties. Additionally, he recommended including a freedom fighter in the interim government. The President called on the people of the country to cooperate in resolving the crisis.


Present at the meeting were General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff; Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chief of Air Staff; Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff; Professor Asif Nazrul from the Dhaka University Law Department; Professor Tanzim Uddin Khan from the International Relations Department of Dhaka University; and the 13 coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.

Following the meeting, Nahid, the chief coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, told reporters, “The names of all members of the interim government will be finalized within the next 24 hours or so, and a swearing-in ceremony might be organized.”


In response to a reporter’s question, he said, “Dr. Muhammad Yunus is currently abroad. He is expected to return tomorrow.”


Nahid also mentioned, “Today, students have worked on traffic control across the country and have guarded the temples. This effort was praised during the meeting with the President.”


Calling on the public to continue supporting the creation of a peaceful nation, Nahid urged everyone to remain vigilant against any violence or unrest. He emphasized the need to prevent any unpleasant incidents involving state property or police stations.

Professor Tanzim Uddin Khan from the International Relations Department at Dhaka University, who was present at the meeting, told our correspondent, “Dr. Yunus has been appointed as the head of the interim government. The interim government will be completed within the next 24 hours and will start working promptly.”


When asked about the potential duration of the government, he replied, “There was no discussion on this matter. Once the government is fully formed, they will discuss the situation and make a decision accordingly.”
