Saleh Uddin Ahmed Assigned to Two Ministries


Under the leadership of Dr. Yunus, responsibilities have been distributed among the 17 members of the interim government. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, the former Governor of the Bangladesh Bank, has been assigned to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning. This information was announced in a notification from the Cabinet Division on Friday, August 9.

Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed was the ninth Governor of the Bangladesh Bank. He assumed the position on May 1, 2005, following Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, and served until April 30, 2009.

Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed was born in the village of Shrirampur (Doris Shrirampur) in the Nabiganj Upazila of Brahmanbaria district. He completed his SSC from Dhaka Collegiate School in 1963 and his HSC from Dhaka College in 1965, both in the Science department. He earned his BA (Honours) in Economics from Dhaka University in 1968 and his MA in the same subject in 1969. 

In 1970, Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed joined Dhaka University as a Lecturer in Economics. He then joined the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP) in the central administration. In 1978, he obtained a PhD in Economics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
