How Sleep Apnea Detection Works on Apple Watch Series 10, Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra

The MTV VMAs are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a lineup that promises to be memorable. This year’s show features the dynamic Megan Thee Stallion as host, and Eminem as the esteemed show-opener. The roster of performers includes some of the hottest artists of the year, such as Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

The 2024 VMAs will broadcast live from New York’s UBS Arena on Wednesday, September 11, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Katy Perry, who previously won Video of the Year for “Firework” in 2011 and hosted the show in 2017, will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award and will perform a medley of her hits. Perry is making VMA history as the first artist to host, win Video of the Year, and receive the Vanguard Award—an MTV trifecta.

Cyndi Lauper, who won the Moon Man for Best Female Video at the inaugural VMAs in 1984, will present at this year’s show. Note that the award has since been renamed to Moon Person to reflect gender neutrality. Carson Daly, former host of MTV’s TRL, will also be presenting. Daly's TRL era was a time when MTV still featured a significant amount of music videos.

Eminem, who is set to open the show, is coming off the release of his latest album, *The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)*, which has just become his 11th album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. His 2005 hits compilation, *Curtain Call: The Hits*, recently made history as the first hip-hop album to spend 700 weeks on the Billboard 200.

This year, Eminem has received eight nominations, including nods for Video of the Year and Song of the Summer for his hit “Houdini,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. He is also nominated for Artist of the Year and Most Iconic Performance for his 2000 VMAs set featuring over 100 Eminem lookalikes. If Eminem wins in any category, he will surpass Peter Gabriel’s record for the most wins by a male artist, bringing his total to 14.

Taylor Swift leads with 12 nominations. If she secures five or more wins, she will surpass Beyoncé as the artist with the most VMAs in history. Beyoncé currently holds the record with 27 VMAs, while Swift has 23, followed by Madonna with 20, and Lady Gaga with 18.

Newcomers Teddy Swims and Jessie Murph will make their VMA debuts with performances on the Extended Play Stage. Additionally, Le Sserafim will make their U.S. award show debut on the pre-show.

Fan voting closed on September 6, but voting for Best New Artist continues through the live show. The top nominees include Post Malone with 11 nods, Eminem with eight, and Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA with seven each. Other nominees include Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, GloRilla, LISA, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims, each with four nominations.

Notably, Taylor Swift and Post Malone are not scheduled to perform, nor are other heavily-nominated artists such as Ariana Grande, SZA, Boone, and Eilish.

The 2024 VMAs will be broadcast live across MTV’s global platforms, including BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Nick at Nite, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, VH1, and Univision.

The 90-minute pre-show special, hosted by Nessa, Dometi Pongo, and Kevan Kenney, will air from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, CMT, and Logo.

Executive producers include Bruce Gillmer and Jesse Ignjatovic, co-executive producer Barb Bialkowski, and production executives Alicia Portugal and Jackie Barba. Wendy Plaut is in charge of celebrity talent, while Lisa Lauricella oversees music talent.
