Catherine, Princess of Wales, Shares Update on Cancer Recovery: "Doing What I Can to Stay Cancer-Free"

Catherine, Princess of Wales, has announced that she has completed her chemotherapy and is focusing on staying cancer-free as she plans a gradual return to public life over the coming months.

In a deeply personal video released on Monday, Catherine, who publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in March, shared that she is entering a “new phase of recovery” with renewed hope and appreciation for life.

Since her diagnosis, Catherine—known as Kate—has made only two public appearances, following major abdominal surgery shortly after Christmas.

“As summer ends, I am profoundly relieved to have completed my chemotherapy treatment,” said Kate, 42, wife of Prince William, the heir to the British throne. “My focus now is on staying cancer-free. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my journey to full recovery will be ongoing, and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”

The video features scenes of Kate, William, and their three children—Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, and Prince George—enjoying summer activities such as forest walks, picnics, and beach outings in Norfolk, England.

“The past nine months have been incredibly challenging for our family,” Kate says in the video. “The cancer journey is complex and frightening, especially for those closest to you. This time has reminded William and me to appreciate the simple, often overlooked aspects of life, like the joy of giving and receiving love.”

Kate expressed eagerness to return to work, planning to undertake a few more public engagements in the coming months while keeping a manageable schedule to aid her recovery.

She is expected to attend the annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in London this November to honor those who have served in wartime.

Initially, Kensington Palace had reported that Kate’s surgery was for a non-cancerous abdominal condition. However, following extensive speculation about her health and absence from public life, Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video message in March. This announcement followed King Charles III’s own cancer diagnosis earlier in February. Neither royal has disclosed the specific type of cancer they are treating.

Kate’s initial announcement noted that her chemotherapy was “preventative,” a treatment often used after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. In June, she reported making “good progress” and anticipated continued treatment for several more months.

Her first public appearance since Christmas was at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June, where she joined Charles and other family members on the Buckingham Palace balcony. In July, she received a standing ovation at Wimbledon during the men’s singles final, where she attended with Princess Charlotte.
