Suspect in Custody After Series of Stabbings in Seattle: At Least 9 Injured Over 2 Days.

SEATTLE — A suspect is now in custody following a series of stabbing attacks in Seattle that left at least nine people injured over a span of 38 hours, according to police.

The most recent incident occurred on Friday, with five individuals being stabbed on the 1200 block of South Jackson Street, the Seattle Police Department reported.

Deputy Chief Eric Barden stated during a press briefing that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, is believed to be connected to multiple stabbing incidents reported over the two-day period.

Of the five victims attacked on Friday, four were transported to a local hospital with varying degrees of injuries. One victim arrived with a knife still lodged in their body, while the fifth person received medical attention at the scene and was later released, police said.

The suspect was apprehended nearby, matching the description provided by witnesses. Officers also recovered a weapon at the scene, Barden confirmed.

"This is a horrific tragedy and a mass casualty event," Barden remarked.

In addition to Friday's stabbings, police are investigating four other incidents that took place in the same area over a 38-hour timeframe. The suspect is believed to be responsible for four of these attacks, while one case remains under investigation.

The spree began early Thursday when a 52-year-old woman was stabbed eight times. Three additional stabbing incidents occurred later that day, involving male victims. Two of these men suffered multiple stab wounds, while another reported that the attacker attempted to stab him in the chest. He managed to block the assault but sustained a cut to his hand, and his cellphone was stolen.

Another stabbing took place early Friday, with the victim found bleeding heavily from the neck. They were rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.

Aside from the robbery-related attack, the stabbings appear to be random, according to Barden.

"This was an unusual and alarming series of random assaults by a single individual over a short period," Barden said.
