Shailene Woodley Discusses Her Issues with Porn as a "Very Sexual Person"

Shailene Woodley, known for her candid nature, has opened up about her views on porn, describing it as the "junk food" of pleasure. The actress, who considers herself a "very sexual person," shared that she finds the portrayal of sex in pornography to be "such a performance" rather than a genuine expression of intimacy.

In a conversation on the She MD podcast on September 24, the *Big Little Lies* star criticized the superficial representation of sex in the United States, likening it to "bacon hanging in front of a dog." She believes that mainstream porn fails to capture true intimacy, vulnerability, and connection, which are key aspects of sexual experience.

Reflecting on her own perspective, Shailene argued that many people are unaware of the potential depth of sexual pleasure. “If people knew what was possible with sex, they would look at porn and think, ‘Oh god, this is like junk food,’” she explained. She emphasized the importance of pleasure and expressed frustration with how society often limits understanding of what is possible in sexual relationships. “We’re selling everyone McDonald’s when they could have something so much more fulfilling,” she added.

Woodley’s insight is influenced by her own personal experiences. She credited an early partner with helping her explore her sexuality in a positive and comfortable environment. "I was fortunate to have a partner who loved to dance," she shared. "I often compare sex to dancing—sometimes it’s a fast tango, and other times it’s a slow groove. It’s about exchanging energy and being in sync with each other.”

Following her split from NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2022, Shailene has become increasingly vocal about her views on sex and relationships. She wishes she could contribute to sex education, expressing a desire to reshape how it’s taught. "I’d love to help revamp the sex ed curriculum and find ways to make it more meaningful," she said, envisioning a more informed and open discussion about sexuality for future generations.
