The Israeli military has announced plans to intensify its operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, following extensive airstrikes on Monday. Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated, “Hezbollah must not be given a reprieve. We will speed up offensive operations today, tightening all formations.” Israel’s air force continued its strikes across Lebanon on Tuesday.
Lebanon's Health Minister Firass Abiad reported that at least 558 people were killed in Monday’s Israeli strikes, including 50 children and 94 women. Thousands have fled southern Lebanon, with 16,500 people displaced in the past 24 hours. Many are being housed in schools.
Israel also completed a second wave of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley, hitting weapons storage facilities and command centers. Lebanon endured its deadliest day in nearly two decades, with casualties on Monday alone approaching half the number of deaths during the entire 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war. The number of Hezbollah fighters among the dead remains unclear.
Warnings have been issued by the Israeli military for civilians near Hezbollah positions to evacuate, as cross-border hostilities continue. Hezbollah retaliated by launching around 100 projectiles into northern Israel, with most intercepted, but some causing damage.
As the conflict escalates, airstrikes and rocket fire from both sides show no sign of easing.
