The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has reportedly set up a camp 60 kilometers within the Seven Sisters region, specifically in the Kapapu area of Anjaw district in Arunachal Pradesh, a critical state in India. According to Indian reports, Chinese troops entered the district and remained there for several days before departing. This information has been confirmed by the local media outlet Newsfy.
The Dawnlit Post reports that signs of Chinese activity include fires in the dense forests, inscriptions of China's name on rocks, and images of Chinese food supplies. These indicators suggest that the PLA entered the area around a week ago.
Photographs reveal the year 2024 inscribed on the rocks in English. Such tactics are used by the Chinese army to assert claims over Indian territory following their incursions.
Newsfy’s report also mentions that near Hadigra Pass, which separates the two nations according to the McMahon Line, there is an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp in the Kapapu area. The closest administrative area to Anjaw district, Chaglagam, is approximately 90 kilometers from the McMahon Line, while the Glaithakuru Pass is about 80 kilometers from Chaglagam in the mountainous terrain.
In response to the incident, Indian officials have presented their viewpoint. Dasanglu Pul, Arunachal Pradesh's Minister for Women and Child Development, has stated that, based on local accounts, Chinese soldiers did enter Kapapu district and stayed for a few days before leaving.
An unnamed senior Indian military official has disputed the incursion, asserting that such occurrences are often accidental. They claim that the assertion that PLA soldiers penetrated 60 kilometers into Indian territory is incorrect, as the boundary lines are not clearly marked. It is common for troops from both sides to inadvertently cross into each other’s territory during patrols without realizing they have entered enemy land.
Earlier, in August 2022, there were reports of PLA soldiers supervising infrastructure projects near Hadigra Lake. On August 11 of the same year, a Chinese military LRP patrol team monitored construction work less than 30 kilometers from Chaglagam. Additionally, in 2021, the Chinese military was involved in constructing a second cluster of at least 60 buildings in Arunachal Pradesh.
