"Hey, you guys!" A sequel to 'The Goonies' is in the works with the original cast, according to reports.

"The Goonies" is set to receive a long-awaited sequel. According to a recent report by The Sun, a follow-up to the beloved 1985 classic is officially in the works. The sequel will bring back several original cast members, including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Ke Huy Quan, and Martha Plimpton.

Unfortunately, some key cast members from the original film, such as John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Mary Ellen Trainor, Keith Walker, and Lupe Ontiveros, have passed away.

The Sun also reveals that filming for the sequel is slated to begin next year, with a potential release date in 2026 or 2027. Producers are eager to capture the charm of the original movie while appealing to both long-time fans and a new audience.

A source told The Sun, "The Goonies reboot has been discussed for years, but it's finally moving forward. The team is thrilled about the chance to introduce the magic of the original film to a new generation."

Richard Donner, who directed the original, passed away in 2021. Steven Spielberg, who created the story for the film, and Chris Columbus, who wrote the screenplay, had previously discussed the idea of a sequel. Columbus recounted a conversation with Donner about a potential follow-up, saying, “He called me and said, ‘You know what we should do? We’re gonna get on my boat, smoke pot for three days and come up with an idea for ‘Goonies 2.’” Columbus admitted to regretting that the plan never came to fruition.

The original cast had a virtual reunion in 2020 on Josh Gad’s web series, where Spielberg discussed the reasons behind the delay of a sequel. With the new film now in development, fans can look forward to revisiting the adventures of the beloved group of kids from Astoria, Oregon.
