Flight Diverted After Passenger Discovers Live Mouse in Meal

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) made an emergency landing on Wednesday after a live mouse was found in a passenger's in-flight meal. The flight, en route from Oslo, Norway, to Malaga, Spain, was diverted to Copenhagen, Denmark, for safety reasons.

The emergency landing followed standard protocol, as the mouse posed a potential safety threat, said SAS spokesperson Oystein Schmidt, speaking to the AFP news agency. Rodents onboard can be dangerous, as they could potentially damage electrical wiring.

Passengers were later transferred to another plane and continued their journey to Malaga.

"Such incidents are extremely rare," Mr. Schmidt explained, noting that SAS would be reviewing the incident with its suppliers to prevent future occurrences

Jarle Borrestad, a passenger on the flight, recounted the event to the BBC, saying the mouse escaped from a meal box belonging to a fellow traveler. Despite the surprise, Borrestad said the atmosphere remained calm, though he humorously added that he pulled his socks over his trousers to avoid the mouse crawling up his legs. He also noted that the diversion added only a few extra hours to the trip.

This is the second rodent-related travel incident reported within the week.
