A storm with winds reaching 60 km/h is expected over the sea. How much rain will affect Kolkata during the 'night takeover' event? What are the forecasts for other districts?

A new low-pressure system has developed in the Bay of Bengal, leading to rough sea conditions. The Alipore Weather Department predicts that wind speeds over the sea will increase starting Sunday night. This is likely to bring stormy weather and rain to Kolkata and nearby South Bengal districts. Rain is anticipated in several districts until Thursday. On Sunday night, Kolkata will host a 'night takeover' protest against the rape and murder of a female doctor. Many people are expected to join the protest, and rain is also forecasted for the city during the night.

The weather forecast indicates that Kolkata will experience thunderstorms and rain on Sunday. This forecast also applies to Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Bankura. Rainfall is expected to intensify in South Bengal on Monday, with thunderstorms possible across all these districts. Heavy rain is predicted for South 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, Jhargram, and Bankura. East Midnapore might see heavy to very heavy rain on Monday, and an orange alert has been issued for this area.

On Tuesday, heavy rain may affect South 24 Parganas, both Midnapores, Jhargram, Purulia, and West Bardhaman. Wednesday could bring heavy rain to Hooghly, Birbhum, Nadia, and both 24 Parganas. Heavy rain may also impact West Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad on Thursday. Other days are expected to see light to moderate rain in various districts, but no specific weather warnings have been issued yet.

The Alipore Weather Department has reported that the low-pressure system has moved north and northwest over the west-central and adjacent northwestern Bay of Bengal. The system has been traveling at 13 km/h and is currently 390 km south of Digha. It is expected to evolve into a deep low-pressure area as it approaches the Odisha and West Bengal coasts over the next 24 hours. It is projected to make landfall between Puri and Digha on Monday night. Consequently, rain in Gangetic Bengal is expected to increase after Monday.

Currently, strong winds of 45 to 55 km/h are blowing in the northwestern and adjacent central Bay of Bengal due to the low-pressure system. Wind speeds may rise to 50 to 60 km/h starting Sunday night. The weather office has warned that coastal weather conditions will remain unfavorable until September 11. Fishermen are advised to avoid going to sea until Wednesday, and a red or extreme alert has been issued for them.

Next week, rain is also expected in North Bengal. Thunderstorms and rain are forecasted for all northern districts on Monday, with heavy rain possible in Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The same forecast applies for Tuesday. Rain is expected in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda on Monday, with heavy rain possible in Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Kolkata's minimum temperature was 28.9°C, which is 2.5°C above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Saturday was 34.6°C, which is 2.2°C above normal.
