Nicole Kidman’s character Romy has always played by the rules — until she meets Harris Dickinson’s Samuel in the provocative trailer for *Babygirl*, the highly anticipated erotic thriller directed by Halina Reijn. The film follows Romy, a successful executive, as she embarks on a risky affair with her much younger intern, Samuel, whose magnetic chemistry ignites a dangerous game of power and seduction.
The trailer teases the sizzling dynamic between Romy and Samuel, with scenes of their flirtatious encounters in hotel rooms, bars, and clubs. Their affair quickly blurs the lines between personal and professional, pushing boundaries and exploring themes of power and gender roles.
*Babygirl*, from A24 and director Reijn (*Bodies, Bodies, Bodies*), premiered at the Venice Film Festival to glowing reviews and earned a seven-minute standing ovation. In the film, Kidman’s Romy risks everything — including her career and marriage to Antonio Banderas’ character — for the intoxicating affair with Samuel.
"Everyone is just waiting for me to crack under the pressure," Romy narrates in the trailer, offering a glimpse into her struggle to balance her high-stakes career with the demands of being a mother and wife.
In one striking moment, Samuel candidly tells Romy, “I think you like to be told what to do,” before apologizing for the inappropriateness of his comment, only to reveal deeper layers of control and attraction in their taboo relationship. As their affair spirals out of control, Romy finds herself submitting to Samuel’s dominance, even as he threatens to upend her life.
During the film’s Venice premiere, Kidman described her experience as "liberating," saying, “The film is about sex, desire, secrets, marriage, truth, power, and consent. It’s one woman’s story, told through her gaze, and that’s what made it so unique for me — being in the hands of a woman with this material was deeply freeing.”
