Tom Selleck has opened up about his frustration over the cancellation of *Blue Bloods*, the hit CBS show that has been running for 14 years. As the crime drama nears its conclusion, the 79-year-old actor shared his thoughts with *TV Insider*, saying, “I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for *Blue Bloods* but about it still being wildly successful.”
Selleck, who plays New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, emphasized the enduring popularity of the show, which ranked ninth in the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024. Reflecting on its success, Selleck said, “I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to tell a network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot and it’ll win Friday night for the next 15 years,’ no one would believe it.”
He expressed frustration that the show was "taken for granted" due to its consistent success. "It performed from the get-go," Selleck noted, adding that it will take him time to fully process the series' end.
The final eight episodes of *Blue Bloods* are set to air in December 2024, marking the end of a show that has been a mainstay on CBS since 2010.
Selleck, who also starred in *Magnum, P.I.*, mentioned that the cancellation might impact his ability to maintain his 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California. He admitted that despite his long career, financial concerns could arise without the steady income from the show. "Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!" he joked.
Selleck, who has been married to Jillie Mack since 1987, has two children, Hannah and Kevin, from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Ray.
