Melissa Villaseñor Reveals Owen Wilson Rejected Idea of Impersonating Him on ‘SNL’: "I Feel Like It’s Done".

Melissa Villaseñor recently shared her experience with actor Owen Wilson during his time hosting Saturday Night Live. Villaseñor, known for her spot-on celebrity impressions, had previously impersonated Wilson on her YouTube channel and in sketches for Más Mejor. When Wilson hosted the SNL Season 47 premiere in 2021, Villaseñor suggested doing a joint impression of him for a sketch, but he declined.

Speaking on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, Villaseñor explained, "I asked him if we could do the Owen impression together, but he said, ‘I feel like it’s done. I feel like people, it’s over.’ He wasn’t interested."

Carvey added to the conversation, recalling a dinner with Wilson, SNL creator Lorne Michaels, and Kevin Nealon, where Wilson had expressed discomfort with people impersonating him. Carvey respected Wilson's wishes and dropped the idea.

Spade also mentioned his own experience impersonating Wilson, noting that it was more about capturing his quirky demeanor. He joked, "I don’t even do Owen that well, but they assigned it to me when I hosted."

Villaseñor has showcased her Owen Wilson impression in other outlets, including Más Mejor and her YouTube channel, where she playfully imagines Wilson guiding a meditation session. Despite Wilson’s hesitations, Villaseñor’s impression remains one of her favorites.
