King and Queen Welcomed by Light Show During Australia Tour.

The Sydney Opera House was illuminated with images from past royal visits as King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Australia on Friday. The couple touched down in Sydney following a rainstorm to begin their six-day tour of the country.

Greeted by Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, this marks King Charles' first visit to the nation as head of state since ascending the throne in 2022.

Images of the Royal Family’s historical visits were projected onto the iconic Opera House in honor of their arrival, although partially obscured by a delayed cruise ship named Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Camilla, holding an umbrella, wore a brooch gifted to Queen Elizabeth II in 1954 during her Commonwealth tour. The royal couple was then whisked to Admiralty House for a private meeting with the prime minister.

Their tour will officially begin on Sunday, featuring engagements with a focus on environmental initiatives, meetings with political and community leaders, and a naval review in Sydney Harbour. This marks King Charles' 17th visit to Australia, but his first as monarch.

The visit, however, has reignited debates over Australia’s future as a monarchy, with some advocating for the country to become a republic. Despite the differing views, the royal couple expressed excitement for the tour, stating they are looking forward to celebrating Australia’s rich cultures and communities.
