Jalen Brunson Addresses Josh Hart's Struggles in Preseason.

Knicks’ Jalen Brunson has taken responsibility for Josh Hart's struggles during the preseason, particularly after Hart admitted feeling "lost" in his current role. Brunson, always quick to hold himself accountable, stated, “I have to be a better leader and make sure he’s ready to go by game one,” following practice on Sunday as the Knicks prepared for their regular-season opener against the Celtics. “It’s on me,” Brunson added.

Hart had expressed disappointment after finishing four preseason games with only two points, attempting just six field goals over 90 minutes. He even suggested that a move to the second unit might be an option. However, with the Knicks' injury news regarding Precious Achiuwa, who will miss 2-4 weeks with a strained hamstring, a lineup change seems unlikely.

Brunson acknowledged Hart's unselfishness, explaining that Hart might feel obligated to involve others more. "From my point of view, I feel like we need to be better as teammates, making sure we’re on the same page and giving each other confidence. That starts with me,” Brunson said of his close friend and former college teammate.

While Hart has voiced frustration about his preseason performance, he also recognized that his role this season would be more secondary due to the arrivals of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges. "I won’t lie, it’ll be frustrating at times, but we don’t win without sacrifice," Hart said, noting that he’ll have to adjust to fewer offensive opportunities.

Despite these frustrations, it’s not the first time Hart has struggled to find his rhythm early in a season. Similar issues arose last year, yet he eventually turned things around to have a strong season.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, while not revealing specifics about any private discussions with Hart, remained unconcerned about the situation. “He’s fine. It’s the same role he’s always had. Just get out there and help the team,” Thibodeau said, signaling confidence in Hart’s ability to overcome the early difficulties.
