Five people were killed and 22 injured in a terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) near Ankara on Wednesday, according to government officials. The assailants, a man and a woman, were killed in the attack, which took the lives of four TUSAS employees and a taxi driver who brought the attackers to the site. Social media footage showed an explosion at TUSAS headquarters, followed by an armed individual running through a parking lot. Another video captured the attackers approaching the facility with weapons.
Although no group has claimed responsibility, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler suggested that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU, and the US, might be behind the attack. Initial investigations also pointed to the PKK, though confirmation was still pending.
The attack occurred amid discussions in Turkish Parliament about the Kurdish issue, and shortly after, Turkish forces struck PKK targets in Iraq and Syria, killing several people. The incident has raised concerns, with Turkish President Erdogan condemning it as a "vile attack" targeting the country's defense industry.
