A powerful storm swept through Washington state Tuesday night, leaving one person dead and two injured due to falling trees. The storm, fueled by an atmospheric river, brought strong winds and widespread power outages.

In Lynnwood, a woman in her 50s lost her life when a tree fell onto a homeless encampment, according to South County Fire. In Puget Sound, two individuals were injured when a tree collapsed onto a trailer, requiring extensive rescue efforts. One person was freed quickly, while the second required an hour-long extrication process, Puget Sound Fire reported.

By midnight, approximately 650,000 customers in Washington were without power, with Snohomish and King counties—home to Seattle—experiencing the majority of outages, according to PowerOutage.us.

Storm Intensifies

The storm, fueled by a massive plume of Pacific moisture known as an atmospheric river, began battering the West Coast on Tuesday afternoon and is expected to continue through Friday. The system is forecast to develop into a bomb cyclone, meaning its central pressure could drop at least 24 millibars within 24 hours, though it may intensify at nearly double that rate.
