Taylor Swift has shattered yet another milestone in her illustrious career. On Thursday night, at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA), the “Fortnight” singer made history by becoming the most-decorated artist in the award show's history, boasting a total of 49 career wins.
Swift, who entered the night tied with Drake at 39 awards each, swept the ceremony by securing 10 trophies across major categories. These included Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album.
Meanwhile, Drake added three wins to his tally, bringing his total to 42—now second only to Swift.
In a heartfelt pre-recorded acceptance speech, Swift expressed gratitude to Billboard and her dedicated fan base. “Thank you for being the ones who care about our albums and come to see us in concert,” she said. Reflecting on the overwhelming success of her Eras Tour and recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, Swift added, “It means the world to me that you’ve embraced the things I’ve made and care so much about my music.”
Swift, who celebrates her 35th birthday on Friday, called the night’s wins “the nicest early birthday present.” She ended her speech with a smile, saying, “It’s exactly what I wanted.”
A Chart-Topping Legacy
Swift’s dominance at the BBMAs comes as no surprise given her recent achievements on the Billboard charts. In 2022, she made history as the first artist ever to claim the entire top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with tracks from her album Midnights. Earlier this year, she broke her own record by claiming the top 14 spots on the Hot 100 following the release of The Tortured Poets Department.
TTPD has set multiple records, spending 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart—longer than any of Swift's previous albums. In 2023, she became the only living artist to have five albums in the Billboard 200’s top 10 simultaneously.
A Star-Studded Night
The 2024 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by comedian and actor Michelle Buteau, aired on FOX and featured performances from a variety of artists, including Coldplay, Linkin Park, and Shaboozey. The event was a celebration of music’s biggest stars and their achievements over the past year.
Looking Ahead
As Swift continues to break barriers in the music industry, her influence and legacy only grow stronger. The success of her Eras Tour and her ability to consistently rewrite the record books underscore her unmatched status in the entertainment world.
For Swift and her legions of devoted fans, the night was more than just a victory—it was a testament to the power of artistry, resilience, and connection through music.
